Inspection
We offer 3 types of inspections:
- Resale: A resale evaluation is done prior to the sale of a home. At this time, the septic is pumped, and a master plumber performs an evaluation of the system. This evaluation includes a thorough inspection of the tank, drain field, electrical components, and safety requirements.
- Pre-treatment Inspection: This inspection is required annually by SPS 383 code and local ordinances. A POWTS* Maintainer or MPRS restricted plumber will perform an inspection of the aerobic treatment unit. This type of POWTS is different because it has aeration that purifies the effluent. An annual report is required to ensure the components continue to function properly.
- Maintenance Inspection: This inspection is required every 1 to 3 years by SPS 383 code and local county ordinances. A POWTS Maintainer pumps the septic and pump chamber. A general report is then completed. Finally, the Maintainer reports any obvious issues with the system. During this inspection, the Maintainer also cleans the filter and checks the floats and pump for proper operation. The report is included with the invoice when the service is complete.
*POWTS = Private Onsite Wastewater Treatment System — the technical term for septic system
Soil Testing
Soil testing is required prior to the installation of any new septic system or mound coring, according to Wisconsin, SPS 383 code. The evaluation is performed to determine what type of POWTS* is suitable to the soil. This will also determine limiting factors, such as high ground water or bedrock.
Utility lines are located prior to evaluation day. A minimum of 3 holes are dug on the property; these are then evaluated by a soil scientist to determine the soil composition. Finally, the holes are filled in, and the soil scientist completes a report that is submitted to county.
Septic System Pumping/Cleaning
This service is required every 2 to 3 years by SPS 383 code and local ordinances. Laudolff Septic Services pumps and cleans all types of septic systems. Septic tank contents are partially treated waste and is disposed of by land application. A certified Grade T or Grade L septage operator will pump the septic and create a general report. This will include any obvious issues with the system. The operator also cleans the filter and check the floats and pump for proper functionality. The report is included with the invoice when service is complete.
Septic System Design
Before a septic system installation, a plan must be made. Our design is sent to the Wisconsin state plan reviewers or county plan reviewers for approval. This process is done by one of the MPRS Restricted Plumbers on staff. The process can take several weeks based on the volume of reviews that are scheduled at the state level.
Holding Tank Pumping/Cleaning
This service is required annually by SPS 383 code and local ordinances. Laudolff Septic Services pumps and cleans all sizes of holding tanks. Holding tank contents are non-treated waste, which is disposed of at a municipal wastewater treatment plant. Holding tanks are equipped with floats and an alarm that alerts the owner when the tank is almost full. The volume of water used will determine the frequency of pumping. However, all holding tanks are required to be inspected/pumped annually.
Septic System Installation
Laudolff Septic Services installs all types of septic systems and holding tanks. At-grades, aerobic treatment units (ATU), mounds, and all types of conventional systems.
Septic System Repair
Septic systems and holding tanks have several components that might require repair, including:
- Pumps
- Blocked lines
- Tank replacements
- Float repair or replacement
- Riser extensions
Riser Extension Installation and Repair
The extension on the manhole must be either a maximum of 6″ below grade or a minimum of 4″ above grade, according SPS 383. A riser below grade will require digging before servicing. Riser extensions, on the other hand, allow for easy access to the tank and electrical components. Laudolff Septic Services can also replace covers for the manholes.
